A Word From Board President Gene Callaway

Hello again from the OU Women’s and Gender Studies Board of Advisors, and welcome to our second edition of WGS Voices: E-News Updates from the University of Oklahoma Women’s and Gender Studies Board of Advisors. We have news to share from WGS fall programs as well as several exciting events coming up this spring.

Two especially important events to mark on your calendar are the Take Root Conference coming up at the end of this month and the annual Voices fundraiser set for April 21.

On Feb. 24 and 25, WGS hosts the seventh annual Take Root: Red State Perspectives on Reproductive Justice Conference at the Thurman J. White Forum building on the OU campus. You can read about Take Root here.

This year’s gala fundraiser, Voices of Justice, will be held at the Sam Noble Museum on April 21. The evening features State Representative Emily Virgin as keynote speaker and our annual Courage awards, and promises to be entertaining and illuminating. This event serves to raise funds for several important WGS programs, and we hope you’ll join us.

We have updates on last fall’s Dream Course, Bodies That (Don’t) Matter, as well as news about the exciting work WGS Director Lupe Davidson and others are doing in Uganda helping to tell the stories of girls and women whose lives have been impacted by war.

In these stressful and complicated times, the work WGS does is more important than ever. OU’s Women’s and Gender Studies Program educates while the Center for Social Justice illuminates: dual aspects of WGS programming that are changing lives of students, faculty, and individuals daily. We of the WGS Board of Advisors are honored to be associated with work of such weight and significance.
